Stop waking up in pain

After shoulder surgery, sleep is where recovery happens — and where everything goes wrong. Ordinary pillows offer no shoulder support, so the arm falls forward and presses on the surgical site. Most patients wake every hour or two. The Shoulder Sleeper's dedicated arm channel keeps the shoulder neutral and the arm elevated, and users report four to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep.

Built by a patient and his physiotherapist

After his own shoulder surgery, founder Sam Jacobsak spent weeks unable to sleep — not on his back, not on his side, not even in a recliner. His sling wasn't built for sleep, and no pillow on the market was either. Together with his physiotherapist Michael Scaduto he built one. What began as a hand-cut, hot-glued prototype is now a patented design recommended by more than 300 surgeons and physiotherapists and used by over 30,000 patients.

Why a sling fails you at night

Slings are built for daytime — they hang the arm's weight from a neck strap, have no cushioning, and do nothing to stop the arm shifting once you fall asleep. The Shoulder Sleeper eliminates the neck strap entirely: the SecureStrap™ system anchors around your waist and wrist instead, cushioning the arm in multiple sleep positions with zero pressure on the neck and shoulder.

Why a sling fails you at night

The surgeon-designed arm channel

The ArmBar™ and arm channel hold your arm elevated with the shoulder in neutral rotation, while the elbow floats free of pressure — the design detail that protects the ulnar and axillary nerves and prevents the numbness and tingling that plague side-sleepers. The Body Curve follows your shape, moving with you between back- and side-sleeping without losing position.

Sized to your body, specific to your side

Left and right shoulders need mirrored support, so each pillow is built specifically for the affected side — never one-size-fits-all. Two sizes cover heights from 150 cm: Small/Medium (150–178 cm) and Large/XL (180 cm +), for the correct arm elevation and body alignment.

Hygienic, washable, recovery-proof

The hypoallergenic bamboo-blend cover zips off and machine-washes; the medical-grade foam holds its shape night after night. Many patients keep a spare cover in rotation so the pillow is always fresh — especially useful in the early weeks with dressings and drains.

What's included
  • Shoulder Sleeper Pillow™ (left- or right-side specific, medical-grade foam)
  • SecureStrap™ system — arm strap, adjustable waist strap, and wrist & hand strap
  • Removable, machine-washable hypoallergenic bamboo-blend cover
  • Optional: add a spare cover at checkout so you always have a clean one on
Which size am I?

Small/Medium fits heights 150–178 cm (5'0"–5'10"); Large/XL fits 180 cm and above (5'11"+). Between sizes, or expecting swelling or post-surgical drains? Choose the larger size — the extra room is more comfortable during recovery.

Should I add the additional cover?

Most people say yes. The cover is machine-washable, and during recovery you'll want to wash it while still using the pillow — dressings, drains and warm nights all take their toll. Adding a spare at checkout is cheaper than ordering one separately later.

What exactly is the Shoulder Sleeper Pillow?

A patented orthopaedic support pillow developed by a physiotherapist together with leading orthopaedic surgeons. It holds your shoulder, elbow and wrist in the recommended position all night — protecting the surgical site, easing pressure, and letting you sleep through recovery.

Who is it designed for?

People recovering from rotator cuff repair, labral or SLAP repair, total or reverse shoulder replacement, and clavicle fracture — plus non-surgical conditions such as frozen shoulder, impingement, bursitis, tendinitis and chronic shoulder pain. It's also used in stroke rehabilitation and post-mastectomy recovery where careful arm positioning matters.

How is it different from sleeping in my sling?

Slings are daytime devices: a neck strap carries the arm's weight (hello, stiff neck), there's no cushioning, and nothing stops the arm shifting once you're asleep. The Shoulder Sleeper has no neck strap at all, cushions the arm in back- and side-sleeping positions, and keeps the shoulder in neutral all night.

Does it actually stop my arm moving overnight?

Yes — the SecureStrap™ system includes an arm strap, an adjustable waist strap for a personal fit, and a wrist & hand strap that minimises movement during sleep. Back sleepers especially benefit from the extra anchoring.

Which size do I need?

It goes by height: Small/Medium for 150–178 cm (5'0"–5'10"), Large/XL for 180 cm+ (5'11"+). If you're between sizes or expect swelling or drains, choose the larger size.

Left or right?

Order the side of the affected shoulder — a left pillow supports a left shoulder. If your left arm is the one in a sling or recovering from surgery, Left is correct.

When should I start using it?

Ideally, have it ready before your surgery date. Most patients are too exhausted on their first night home to set up anything new — having it waiting means you use it from night one. It's suitable from the day you come home.

How long will I need it?

Most post-surgical patients use it for six to twelve weeks through their primary recovery, guided by their surgeon or physiotherapist. Many keep using it long after — simply because they sleep better — and people with chronic shoulder conditions often use it indefinitely.

Can I use it together with a wedge pillow?

Yes. A wedge or a firm stack of pillows handles your body elevation, while the Shoulder Sleeper handles the arm — they solve different halves of the same problem and work well together.

Is the cover washable?

Yes — the hypoallergenic bamboo-blend cover is fully removable and machine-washable. We recommend air-drying, and keeping a spare cover on hand during recovery.

Is it recommended by clinicians?

Yes. It was developed with orthopaedic surgeons, is recommended by more than 300 surgeons and physiotherapists, and appears in post-operative care protocols. See our clinician recommendations page for more.
